What to Expect

Everyone is welcome at our worship services.  If you are a follower of Christ looking for a church home or just taking a closer look at the Christian faith, we would love to meet you and hear your story.  We are a friendly group of people who desire to exalt Christ in all we do.

Worship

Our Sunday morning worship services begin at 10:45am and usually last about 75 minutes.  Most people who attend wear business casual attire.  Some dress up, others dress down; wear whatever you think is appropriate for a worship environment.  At Smithwood, worship is more about substance than style.  We strive to sing older and newer songs that remind us of the deep truths of the gospel.  We also take time to pray and read Scripture.  In his sermons, our pastor takes a passage of Scripture, seeks to explain it clearly, then applies it to our lives.  We normally take a book of the Bible and work through it section by section on consecutive Sundays.

Children in Worship

All of our children's workers are friendly and have passed a background check.  We have a nursery available during our worship hour for children 3 and under.  Children who are older than 3 but have not completed 5th grade, stay with their parents during the first part of worship.  These children will come forward during the children's sermon time.  After this time of teaching, they will be taken out to children's worship.  Of course, you are welcome to let your children stay with you during the entire worship service.  We also have children's classes and a nursery during our Sunday School hour.

Parking and Access

Visitor parking is found in front of the education wing of our building.  These spaces are marked and reserved for your convenience.  They can be accessed by our Tazewell Pike entrance or by the Jacksboro Pike entrance that is closest to the Exxon gas station.  Many visitors use the entrance that goes directly into our Sanctuary, but if you want to pick up some information about our church, follow the signs to our welcome center.  Handicap parking and access can be found at the back of the building.  Greeters are posted at our main entrances and will be able to direct you to where you need to go.
